Aggravated Assault and Pursuit Arrest

On Monday, July 21st at about 7:00 PM, Gregg County Deputies responded to an aggravated assault family violence call at the EZ Mart convenience store on State Highway 135 in Kilgore. Responding Deputies met with a female who reported that she had been assaulted by her ex common law husband, 33 year old Robert Justin Moorehead of Kilgore.

The woman gave details of an incident that began earlier in the day at Lake Gladewater in which Gladewater Police responded and separated Moorehead and the woman to prevent violence. Upon the woman leaving the lake and returning home with her four children, Moorehead reportedly followed the woman and struck the back of the woman’s vehicle with his truck.

Kilgore Police responded to assist and located Moorehead in his vehicle. Moorehead then led Kilgore Police Officers and assisting DPS units on a pursuit through Gregg and Smith Counties. The pursuit ended in the area of Old Highway 135 in Liberty City when Moorehead crashed after hitting a DPS vehicle.   Moorehead then fled on foot and was captured a short time later. He was transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center for minor injuries and was treated and released. Moorehead was booked into the Kilgore Jail and was later transferred to the Gregg County Jail.

Moorehead has been charged with:

  1. Possession of marijuana; $5000.00 bond
  2. DWI; $5000.00 bond
  3. Evading Arrest with a Vehicle; $25,000.00 bond
  4. Aggravated Assault of a Public Servant; $500,000.00 bond
  5. Aggravated Assault Family Violence; $100.000.00 bond
